University of Utah May 12th, 2011

I went to my appt. today for the headache clinic in the clinical Neuro-sciences area of the hospital. We parked in a separate parking garage right across a small street from the building. It is the same parking garage for the Huntsman Cancer Center.

I am VERY excited, because there is a lot of hope that I can make a if not complete recovery a much improved outlook for my health. Also, some goals have been reached!! I've made it over the 140lb hurdle!! It's taken 1 1/2 years, but have finally succeeded!--I know most people are trying to lose weight...  :D  Also, I've managed to grow muscle even though I've been using the wheelchair for the last 7 months. (Not sure exactly how that works!! But feel very blessed!)

I am being referred to a sleep specialist to rule out restless leg syndrome, and sleep apnea. There was a girl from my home town about a year ago, who had a ton of seizures and similar symptoms as I. She had a volleyball scholarship that was held until she visited the Mayo clinic. She was diagnosed with sleep apnea, put on a CPAP, and her seizures stopped immediately. So we've wondered if that was a possibility for me.

Also, I have a referral to a Rheumatologist to rule out a connective tissue disorder. Then I can get a 2nd opinion from a Endocrinologist to further my Hashimoto's diagnosis and elevated parathyroid issue.

The seizures have slowed down, and instead I've had a lot of migraines. After the sleep study, the doctors want me to try Cymbalta to manage as a preventative the migraine brain waves from triggering the seizures and migraines. So it should be interesting. I feel pretty good about trying this medicine out in comparison to others that I was offered. I still have a lot of facial twitching which the doctors were able to see in action yesterday, but they don't have an explanation for it yet.

Overall, I'm mostly relieved and excited because I feel more hopeful and it was nice to finally be at a facility where there wasn't a lot of ho humming as much as extremely knowledgeable and researching doctors. They are anxiously making an effort this time to get me back on my feet and back to doing the outdoorsy things I love to do.
